Gold Shield active members are UCLA alumnae who have served their university, communities, and professions with distinction. The organization’s roots are firmly imbedded in a tradition of service to UCLA. The group has contributed more than one million dollars to the UCLA Alumni Association Scholarship Program; provides funds for the UCLA Oral History Program; and has established the Gold Shield Faculty Prize, An Award for Excellence. This endowment has climbed to more than $500,000 and generates a $30,000 prize biennially for outstanding faculty members. In 1969 Gold Shield published UCLA on the Move, a fifty-year history of the university. In 2004, Gold Shield joined with the UCLA Alumni Association to generate a second history of campus to be published in the fall of 2008. Gold Shield, a California non-profit corporation, raises funds for its various projects through an annual Drive for Dollars.
