Scholarship

Gold Shield has generously supported the UCLA Alumni Association Scholarship Program since 1939, when the organization pioneered the first scholarships by presenting two $150 awards. Since then, Gold Shield members have raised more than three-quarter of a million dollars to fund hundreds of scholarships ranging from $500 to $10,000 in all academic fields. In 2007-2008 Gold Shield will donate $90,000 for scholarships. Although, all awards are based on student merit, Gold Shield also sets aside a pool of money from which Alumni Grants are funded to augment the awards for winning students who have additional financial need. Most scholarships are presented to entering freshmen, but Gold Shield also awards high-achieving UCLA undergraduate and graduate students, transfer student community colleges, as well as grants for Oral History and other research grants.
